chloe + isabel collab

when friend and rep for chloe and isabel, emma mcelroy, reached out to us for a collab, we were so excited. the jewelry, especially in her collection here, is stunning, unique, and timeless. the items are reasonably priced and quite durable. some of our favorites were this choker, these earrings, and this bracelet. (along with so many more!) we were able to try them on, look through each piece in person,  and have some fun pictures to prove it!

room revamp

hey, everyone! hope everyone had a good weekend! i, laura, had a fairly productive weekend and finally got to some projects i have been brainstorming. my brother asked me a few weeks ago if i would be willing to do some wall murals/art with him to spice up his grey-colored basement bedroom.

i went to pinterest first and found some things that inspired a pop of color.

after seeing this image, i decided a smaller blue triangle would be very fun

so away we went! we picked up some of martha stewarts craft paint at joann’s fabrics and got to it.

sorry the pictures are of low quality and not centered well, the basement poses many obstacles for photography haha!

next weekend, if we have time, we are planning on integrating the black frames of the first pin (that follows) and the patterns of the second on his other bare wall.

bildungsroman project

this is a post we have been looking forward to share for weeks. a friend of ours, jack cordero, has recently started his own blog. we always get excited to connect with other bloggers and writers. however, we were especially excited to hear the awesome project jack has planned for his blog: the bildungsroman project.

bildungsroman is a term usually associated with novels; specifically, novels that deal with one’s formative years.

…and what’s a more formative time than one’s teenage years ?! jack has interviewed thirteen smart, creative, and interesting millennial teenagers to get their thoughts on a wide range of subjects from religion to relationships to drugs to art. the questions he asked each of them can be found here in his introductory post.

so far, jack has posted about religion here and the problems our world faces today here.

readers can expect a new post weekly.

congrats to jack, and we cannot wait to read more (and hope you do too).

happy second birthday to us!

today marks two years of distinctive style! having this blog together has challenged and inspired us to delve deeper into what we love most: style, photography, and creative writing. we have so much planned for the future and are happy with our past.

in honor of our birthday, we made our favorite red velvet cupcake/cake recipe.

2017

…. and 11 days later, we are finally writing about the new year.

the start of 2017 came with so many emotions. 2016 was one of the worst for us personally and universally, but it also provided many opportunities for growth. it completely exemplified the quote by joseph kennedy, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” 2016’s rough patches brought out some great people, leaders, and friends in each of us and around the world.

our favorite times included our partnerships with truce juice and artifact uprising, jane in italy, laura in nyc, jane’s birthday here and laura’s birthday here, summer exploring in mpls, a fun photoshoot , jane’s marathon, and a plethora  of concerts…

we are looking forward the fresh start 2017 will provide us with and have so many things we hope to accomplish in these next 365 days (minus 11). as for blog, we want to continue to use our space as a platform to share our love for photography and style, as well as more of our creative writings. i (jane) recently gathered my thoughts on a new year resolution via the odyssey online here. laura plans on being productive and staying inspired in 2017. personally, we will both graduate from high school this year and make some big life decisions regarding college, etc. it is going to be great! our vscos are also a great way to stay current on day to day little moments. if you do not already follow us, here’s laura’s profile and jane’s.  lastly, we loved what brit + co put together for the new year here.

let’s make 2017 a good one, friends! thank you for following along.

a christmas cruise

this past week, i, jane, spent my time on a cruise through florida and cozumel, mexico. it was a fun filled week spent with some of the most special people in my life, my family. here are a few pictures from our time at sea.

IMG_5581.JPG

the trip started in miami, florida. we celebrated being reunited with relatives as we watched the sun go down and paint the sky purple.

i got this (similar) american eagle tank for airport navigating and the long first day of travel.

on day two, we stopped in key west, florida for a few hours. after jewelry shopping and taking a picture in front of the ernest hemingway house, we boarded the ship for a day by the pool.

cozumel, mexico! i have never seen water so blue or trees so green. amazing. while in cozumel, we went snorkeling and enjoyed a couple hours at the beach.

stepping off the ship in the sunny and gorgeous cozumel made the nights of sea sickness and sea legs all worth it.

easy diy gift idea

christmas is just five days away and we are oh so excited. for anyone scrambling to finish up gifts, we have the perfect easy and cheap diy idea. quote canvases ! the total cost is under $10 and they can be designed and customized for any type of person on your list. here is how i, jane, made a few for my friends.

step one: buy canvases at the craft store: $8.99 for a two pack or some smaller and cheaper ones here. you will also need sharpie markers and paint (optional).

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

step two: choose the perfect quote and get drawing. pinterest was my go-to site for quote inspiration.

i choose four: “enjoy the little things” “no rain no flowers ” “better an oops than a what if” & “it is what it is…”

IMG_5165.JPG

step three: paint any blank spaces that need a pop of color. i choose to paint the edges, as my canvases were about 1/2 inch thick.

step four: wrap and give them to the special people in your life.

super easy and cheap, yet considerate and personal. happy gifting and diy-ing !
